Actually, the title is wrong. Approximately 9% of the world's billionaires are women (The original video title is "83 of World's 946 Billionaires are Women." 83/949 = 0.087 = 9%).
The 1% refers to that amazing group of self-made female billionaires. Inheriting the money or gaining it through marriage would put the woman into the 9% but not the self-made 1%.
The top three richest women, all self-made, are especially amazing, given their obstacles. Oprah is a black woman which was/is a double obstacle. JK Rowling was a welfare mom. And the world's richest woman (and China's richest person), Zhang Yin, is perhaps the most amazing. China, after all is Communist. And still very traditional and sexist. In fact, as recently as 1949, rural female illiteracy was 99%.
This blog is dedicated to women that took the leap into the world of being a entrepreneur and to inspire those that have not yet taken the Leap. "Leap and the Net will appear"(Zen Saying)
